Cooperative banks in Europe have been forced to issue shares in order to maintain the necessary level of equity and their place on the banking market. But at the same time they intend to stand by their primary objective: to collect individual savings and to protect their statutes of cooperative banks. It raises some questions concerning the definition of corporate governance and the delicate arbitrage between stakeholders (manager, member, shareholder, customer?)
